Location: The department of Tarija, is located south of Bolivia

Boundaries: Bounded on the north Chuquisaca Department, south to the Republic of Argentina,

east with the Republic of Paraguay and west by the Department of Potosi.

Location: 21º 31′ south latitude and 67° 5′ West Meridian Greenwith.

Height: 1,866 MASL.

Climate: Temperate with an average temperature of 19 º C.

Area: 37,623 km2.

Population: 391,226 inhabitants INE 2001

Creation of the Province was creadada by D.S. September 24, 1831 during the administration Marshal Andrés de Santa Cruz.

Political Division: Has 6 Provinces, Municipal Sections 11, 82 and 94 Towns Townships.

Its Provinces: Cercado, Avilés, Arce, Mendez, O’Connor and Gran Chaco.

Depertamento Capital: The city of Tarija, with 250.000 hab.

Foundation Tarija City: It was founded on July 4, 1574; by Captain Don Luis de Fuentes y Vargas, with the name of Villa de San Bernardo de la Frontera of Tarixa.

Civic Anniversary: It is celebrated every April 15 in honor of the glorious Battle of La Tablada (1817)
